Today was the first – and last – snow of 2003. It was one-year-old Elisabeth’s first snow. It was the first snow Michaela remembers since she was Elisabeth’s age last time this happened. And this is probably the first snow Abigail will remember well.
Abigail’s first snow happened in San Jose, on a Sunday morning in December. The church we were attending at that time met in a school gymnasium. At the end of the service, through the glass windows, we could see snow flakes falling. It was an amazing moment. An entire congregation running outside, ecstatic and surprised, sticking out tongues and dancing on the concrete sport courts. Little babies and children carried outside to see the snow. I remember the wonder and the awe, how happy we were, celebrating what the heavens had given.
